Meet Carly

Carly Compton is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) whose clients have described therapy with her as being treated more like a person than a project. They have appreciated her transparent and often humorous approach, stating that they knew their vulnerability would be met with empathy and warmth. Carly enjoys working with individuals and families utilizing tools from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Carly works from a person-centered approach and believes that when people are given a safe, non-judgemental environment to process and explore, insight can be gained and healing can occur.

In this era of constant external messaging about who we should be, how we should present ourselves, and what we should prioritize in order to be accepted, it is difficult to be vulnerable with ourselves as we are exploring our own identities. We are often given demands of how to be that are in opposition to each other and frankly impossible to achieve simultaneously. We chase being enough so much that it stops us from simply being. We become disconnected from ourselves, to the point that we can no longer hear our inner voice.

For those who have experienced trauma, this occurs to an even greater extent, as self exploration is halted. This is especially true for those who hold marginalized identities, as their reaction to the experience of systematic societal injustice is often ignored, invalidated, and minimized. Experiences do not happen in a vacuum and because of this therapy must be mindful of cultural and societal stigma that influences the ability to be vulnerable safely.

Therapy is not meant to be just another person contributing their message of who you should be but rather someone handing your inner voice a microphone so you can experience being heard and seen. This will be more than a philosophical and abstract conversation, as I will provide actionable tools and a variety of coping strategies. We will examine your emotions and thoughts surrounding the concern and address the emotions that we recognize are present, rather than suppressing them to force emotions that are deemed “correct”. Through this process, we will create an environment in which you can better find the answer that is right for you.
