Mike's Therapeutic Approach

When working with couples, Mike primarily draws from the PACT model (Psychobiological Approach to Couples Therapy). This model integrates the latest findings in neuroscience, psychobiology, attachment theory, experiential therapy, and psychodrama. It is an eclectic, in-depth approach that looks beneath the surface to identify core needs that may or may not be met. For example, a couple might argue about sex, but the underlying issue is often an unmet attachment need or a difference in what feels safe to each partner. Addressing these core needs is essential for meaningful change; otherwise, couples often find themselves repeating the same arguments for months, years, or even decades.

When working with individuals who want to improve their dating life or strengthen an existing relationship, Mike applies the same principles. The PACT model can help someone clarify what truly matters to them and what a secure relationship looks like. From there, they can present themselves authentically in the world and make more informed decisions about whether a potential partner is a good fit.

Mike is also passionate about a holistic approach to therapy—one that incorporates the pillars of diet, exercise, sleep, and community. He has had the privilege of learning from Native American communities and healers in Mexico and Colombia, where he lived for a time. When working with individuals struggling with anxiety or depression, Mike integrates this holistic perspective to support the “whole person.” There is a wealth of evidence—from research studies, ancient wisdom, and cross-cultural experiences—underscoring the importance of these elements in improving mental health outcomes. When appropriate, Mike may also recommend a collaborative approach with outside professionals such as trainers, dietitians, and other wellness providers.

Mike Outside of the Office

Mike enjoys an active lifestyle including working out, running, and playing volleyball and tennis. He also enjoys cooking and learning about healthy foods and supplements. And he loves feeling like part of tribe, which he gets from supportive friends.
